Long Week...

Well, we're home. That would be the reason for the lack of blogging, Everett came home with us.
Here are some pics from before surgery. During bowel prep and then just waiting to go downstairs.

Amazingly enough, the only time I got to blog while in the hospital was while he was in the PICU.
I have to admit that I wish they kicked you out for an hour on the regular floor, too.

Anyhow, the very next morning they let us out of the PICU...well, they told us that morning around 7 that we were leaving. We made it back upstairs that afternoon around 2. Welcome to hospital time. :)

After a long battle with morphine and ativan, we finally decided that he didn't really need any pain meds at all and by Friday morning he was completely off of everything...including Tylenol.

Mommy had to go to work, so Daddy got to step in and spend some quality hospital time with KP. So, of course, about 8 million pictures followed.
KPs girlfriend, Kathy came to visit him in the hospital, too. :D She was our guest photographer for the day. :D
And she brought presents and a super duper cute card! :)

KP was wiped out from all the attention so he grabbed some much needed zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..

Anyhow, KP is doing well. He is just a bit crankier than usual, but I think that's because we retrained him in the hospital and now we're paying the price.

I won't bore you with the details of his healing, but let's just say everything is looking good.

We had an appointment with the cranial people yesterday, and they agree that he is making good progress. Today we are going to see our surgeon for post-op follow up and we will find out when our next surgeries will be. Hopefully it is after Mom is here, but if not, we may be reaching out quite a bit to local family this time for help because there is a lot of transition going on at work right now.

For those of you keeping track, the next surgeries will be colostomy closure and chordee repair. We are hoping to be able to do them together, but we are not sure if that will be the case. Now that KP has had an adverse reaction to anesthesia, it makes every surgeon a bit more weary about putting him under.

Well, that's all for now. Our friend, Sam is now a dad. His twins were born on Monday. They are hanging out in the nicu for a while, but they look great and are progressing well.
This is Sam practicing being a Dad with Everett back in November.
(No, this is not a recent picture, nor is that one of Sam's little Dudes)

Well, that is all for now.

What a butthole ;)

The past couple of days have been interesting to say the least.

We checked into the hospital on Monday morning to get ready for bowel prep. Well, let me tell you a little something about bowel prep. Around 2 pm they put an NG tube into KPs nose to start delivering Golytely. Within that same half hour, they also took his blood for labwork, irrigated his mucus fistula, and gave him antibiotics orally. He was SO excited.

Well, after irrigation, I put a new bag on his stoma, and we watched some cartoons together. And then there was this smell....and come to find out, the bag didn't stick as well as I thought it did. So, Everett was swimming in a puddle of poo. We managed to fill up the trashcan and the linen bin getting him cleaned up. So, I ended up just putting a diaper on over his stoma and putting another diaper on like normal over all of that. It was quite a cute getup. Too bad I can't get my email on my phone to work right now. I will do my best to get these cute pictures uploaded.

Anyhow, 2 more irrigations and 2 more doses of antibiotics later, and we got to go to surgery this morning.

They came to get him around 11:30 am. By 1:30pm they were operating on him, and by 3ish they were done. His general surgeon came out to talk to us and said everything went well. Reports at this time are that they WERE able to get him done without the full laparotomy.

Anyhow, then his surgeon came out again and said that we would be going to the PICU instead of back to our floor. He said that Everett was not breathing on his own and needed to stay on a ventilator.

So, I went upstairs and packed up our room and went back down to the surgery waiting room to await news.

An hour later they came back and told us that we were ready to go up to the PICU....and, what do you know? He was breathing just fine on his own. Apparently the anesthesiologist was just worried because he had some stridor when he woke up. Oh well, he always has that.

So, we are now in the PICU hanging out. I'm about to be let back in after shift change and will get to spend some time with my little baby boy.

I will try to post pictures and more information soon.

The bottom line is that the surgery went well, he is resting comfortably, and his prognosis is looking good.

Cutie Patootie.

We are officially a "go". Everett's pull-through is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 15 (don't forget to do your taxes, btw). We will be going into the hospital on Monday for bowel prep, which thankfully means I won't have to do any last minute packing Tuesday morning. :)

Everett will also be getting his helmet this Thursday. So, our poor little guy has a busy week ahead of him.

But, this week was fun and exciting, also. Everett went and stayed in Granbury this weekend and had a great time.

He also decided this week that he is not a fan of squash, but he is willing to give cheerios a shot...on a one by one basis.

He had another photoshoot with Dad this afternoon because we are big procrastinators...plus, one of us has to be watching him, why not photograph him? :)

And on with the show...
